About Black River Billiards

Where family, friendship, and a love of the game drive everything we do.

For decades, the building at 91 Douglas Avenue has been a Holland favorite for good food, great games, and friendly faces. Once known as Rail House Grill and Billiards, and later briefly as Ride the 9 Billiards, the space has now found new life as Black River Billiards — a true family-run business built on pride, passion, and community.

Owners Chris and Jamie Strowenjans took over in November 2024, bringing new energy and a genuine love for the game. Chris, a lifelong Holland resident, is a well-known figure in the Michigan pool community — a competitive player for decades and former owner of a successful custom tile company. Together, he and Jamie have transformed the space with fresh artwork, upgraded tables, and a made-from-scratch menu that’s quickly become a local favorite.

But what truly sets Black River Billiards apart is the family behind it. You’ll find their sons working behind the bar and in the kitchen, Jamie keeping the books running smoothly, and Chris’s sister managing the day-to-day operations. Every detail, from the food to the atmosphere, reflects the care of a family that loves what they do and takes pride in making everyone feel welcome.

Today, Black River Billiards isn’t just a pool hall — it’s a gathering place where friends, families, and league players come together to relax, compete, and connect. With 19 tournament-quality tables, a full bar and kitchen at The Side Pocket, and a team that treats every guest like family, it’s a modern take on a Holland classic.

At Black River Billiards, the tables may be new, but the spirit is timeless — friendly, familiar, and built to bring people together one game at a time.
